Rolling tarp systems are an effective way to cover anything you are shipping on a flat bed trailer and make it look like a solid semi trailer. For the most part, these "tarps" are very sturdy. They are attached to a metal framework that stretches them out and gives them a boxy form. However, anything man-made eventually breaks or gets a little damage. Some just suffer some wear and tear. Here is how something this sound for transport of goods can become damaged, and how each bit of damage is fixed.
Tears in the Tarp
Tears in the actual tarp material are often the result of catching the tarp material on something sharp, something pointy, or something jagged. Something of large and unusual shape and size can also be the problem, especially if the tarp rolling closed is forced over the object in question. Once objects are unloaded from the trailer, the tarp system can be repaired by either replacing the tarp entirely, or patching the rip. It is generally advisable, however, to just replace the tarp entirely because the patches will only hold so long.
Rollers Are Off-Track
This is a fairly common problem with any product that relies on a track for movement. Both track lighting and divider curtains in conference rooms experience this problem, slipping just off one side of the track or the other. With rolling tarps, you can get carried away with rolling it open and shut too fast, or a roller just slips off the track. Any rollers off-track on a rolling tarp will make it impossible to close the tarp over the objects you are trying to transport. If you cannot easily wedge the rollers back into the track (and it may be tricky!), call the tarp company for a repair specialist.
Frame Is Twisted
If you did not see the tarp material, what you would see instead is a series of rectangular metal frames standing in air. It is the skeletal structure over which the tarp material is pulled and attached. Sometimes truck accidents and bad storms can impact the frames in such a way as to twist them. A frame that is not straight and does not form perfect 90-degree angles at the top two corners is twisted. It will look awkward, not close properly, and be impossible to use. The manufacturing company can bend the frame back into shape, but you will have to schedule the repair.
